Recruitment and governance

Councils sign MOUs with wildlife departments so volunteer actions—collecting eggs for hatcheries, relocating nests, or intercepting poachers—are legally recognized. Many programs reserve at least 40% of patrol slots for women and include a stipend to recognize expertise. Leadership rotates annually to prevent burnout and ensure transparency about stipends, gear purchases, and data-sharing agreements.

Patrol design

Kids learn to identify tracks, calculate incubation periods, and speak confidently about why mangrove roots defend the coastline from storms. Safety and conflict resolution

Encounters with large crocodilians are inevitable. Patrols rehearse retreat protocols, maintain minimum distances with laser rangefinders, and install viewing hides for data collection. Clear documentation of incidents helps lobby for fencing, warning signage, or relocation when necessary.
